Plant-based ingredients
At LisaLise, the ingredients are plant-based. We use as many 100% organic ingredients as we can source. We do not compromise on quality.
Are there any exceptions to the plant-based ingredients? Yes. You will find organic beeswax as well as 100% pesticide-free lanolin in our products. Silk protein can also be added to your products if you prefer this to the plant-based alternative.
Not Just Water
In water-based products, we use hydrosols or floral waters instead of 'just' water.
Hydrosols (also known as hydrolates) are the by-products of essential oil production. During this process, herbs or flowers are distilled with purified water that is heated and steam-pressed through the plant material. The steam releases the essential oils and carries them through the distiller to a collection tank where they float on the surface of the resulting water. When the oils are collected, the hydrosol remains. It is this precious, fragrant liquid you will find as the base of every LisaLise skin tonic, cream, lotion, deodorant, and cleanser.
Floral waters are distilled, purified water with the addition of essential oil and an emulsifier (to disperse the oil). You will find floral waters in LisaLise hair & body wash products, as well as some of the cleansers.
Why We Use Only Plant-Based Oils
The molecules in plant-based oils are small enough to easily penetrate skin, allowing active ingredients to be carried directly to the deeper layers where they can do the most good. Plant-based 'carrier oils' also bring their own nourishment to the mix – even without the addition of active ingredients.
By contrast, the molecules in mineral-based oils are too large to penetrate the skin, and mineral oil offers no nourishment. Although a mineral-based oil can give an immediate feeling of smoothness, the oil (and any active ingredient it is carrying) merely builds up on the surface of the skin, ultimately clogging the pores.
One could ask why the cosmetics industry uses mineral-based oils in their products at all when they have so little to offer. The answer is quite simple: mineral oils are cheaper, more stable, and ideal for mass production. You will not find any mineral oils in LisaLise products.
About Preservatives
We use a range of different preservatives, depending on the product, and can accomodate your specific desires in any product you order. If we use parabens, we use only the parabens that have been cleared by the European Scientific Community. In December 2010, Propylparaben and Butylparaben were cleared by the European Scientific Community for use in cosmetics after thorough study. Ethylparaben and Methylparaben have not at any time been suspected of hormonal interference. There are at present only two parabens (Isobutylparaben and Isopropylparaben) being studied for possible hormonal interference.
Starred Ingredients
On every product page you will find a complete list of ingredients. Some ingredients are marked with an 'star' (*). Starred ingredients can either be personalized (exchanged for another within the same category), or in some products, a starred ingredient can be excluded entirely. Example: the 7-Day Skin Renewal Formula has Rose Hydrosol as the water base and Thistle Oil as the oil base. If you prefer Orange Blossom and Almond oil, then you may order the 7-Day Skin Renewal Formula with this combination. There is a detailed explanation of the ingredients that can be personalized or excluded after the ingredient list, where possible.
