Anticipating Elderblossom Season

Here’s a throwback to last year when elderblossoms were in full bloom in my local park. It is not uncommon to see people picking the fresh blossoms to make their own cordial, deep-fried flowers (a lovely treat!), jams and more when the blossoms are ready, and I am a happy participant in this traditional Danish Spring activity.

Distillate and Dried

Not only did I do a distillate with freshly picked blossoms, but also dried a generous portion for use in other projects. This is a peek at the net bags that were hung out to dry (out of the sun and in the breeze).

Elderblossoms have the most delicate, sweet, floral fragrance that is beautifully captured in a distillate.

I think they will always hold a special place in my heart for several reasons. My very first distillate was with these blossoms. The result was a huge success and I already have requests for this years batch of elderflower hydrosol skin mist.
